looking thru the eyes of history
most of the pro mining always mention "mining development, luxury, work that the church can not provide". In the first place, it is not a task of the church to build bridges, gymnasium, provide land to the land less... But I am convinced that the church can help provide the unborn a little space to live in the future. History will tel us that mining makes investors rich, but look at the environment. Mining is instant money for the miners, but where are they now? Our cars and other machines are product of mining, but why mine only in our country? widen your horizon please...

The dogs with different collar
wHEN Suricon operated guripan on early 60's until its closure in 1973,there are still remaining tropical rainforest in both side of Mt. Pilas and west of the minesite. Now,more than 2 decades after they ceased operations,I am requesting the LGU,the church and the anti-mining sector to look what happen to the forest! The area is being feasted with illegal loggers, slash and burn farmers who are lumads. So,pareho lang natin sinasalaula ang kalikasan.Kung mga local ang bumastos ng kalikasan pikit ang mata ng simbahan, LGU at Anti-mining sector.WE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME DOGS WITH DIFFERENT COLLAR.

let's start thinking about the FUTURE...
:upset

maybe it's time we start thinking about the FUTURE and not only of TODAY...it is our moral obligation to protect the environment for our future generations. actually i was a PRO MINING person in the beginning, but when i really had talks with those from the grassroots level, after seeing their REAL situation, i felt guilty, and now i'm correcting my previous stand regarding this issue. it's time we look at the moral side of the situation, not just the economic angle where the only ones who gain are the INVESTORS...too sad only a few of us realized...and i hope it's not yet too late...

Suricon Private Property
I would like to react on this report esp paragraph 2.. How can the farmer use this land???? This is a private property.. A big portion of the Suricon property is being tilled by some local without giving product shares to landowner, (Suricon) for so long time... Now, do you think the church and LGU can provide this kind of benifits to the local folks? Please have your report properly research.. if indeed the abondoned mine serve no use by the locality. How did you arrived at Site? That more than 5 kms road was opened by suricon in early 60's without govt assistance.

Dont let loose the wild dogs...
With Pagadian Airport about to receive a huge upgrade, and the unlimited growth of international tourism and eco-tourism, along with worldwide demand for food products produced in environmentally clean agricultural area..I would have thought the LAST thing needed in such pristine equatorial/tropical islands is mining
But back to Tourism, actually the Philipine nation should aim to become the 'playground' for Asia. Nearby is China who already has 20 million people traveling o/s a year. They want lush green tropical islands to see, no mines
Zamboanga del Sur can set the example now!

MPSA Applicant
It was noted eversince that anyone against mining devt and exploration made an exagerated views in the industry. My father once worked with Suricon/White Eegles (Assay Dept) but we left guripan after its closure in 1973.
During our young days, We used to play at tailings pond area just below the Mill plant and there was no reported environmental complain esp from the farmers, landowners, local folks, etc. At present local folks were longing for foriegn investor to pour investment, create jobs and devt the community which the LGU and Church could hard to provide.

Thank you.

i'm not that sure about guripan
:x I'm not that sure about barangay guripan in mahayag. i never lived there when the mining company still operates (i was not yet born then) in the area but i was able visit it just last June. people there told me that the last operation was 20 years ago, but i could still smell the chemicals drowned directly to the ground (masakit sa ilong!!!). personally, i dont want it to happen to the farmlands affected by the proposed mining operations in our province. anyway, mining is not the only way for us to improve our lives...marami pang ibang paraan...

Mining Investor/Mining Claim Holder
I agreed with Mr. Tremedal views and comments. Surigao Cons. Mining Co commenced its commercial operations on mid'65 till mid 70's then leased the whole project to White Eagle Overseas and Oil Co who took over till mid-73. Therefore, the life of the mine is only 8 years not 30 in your column.

The abandoned mines tails can be confined to avoid of being eroded that pollute the nearby water bodies. You can demand environmental damages to the previous operator for polluting the environment than generalized the whole industry a Holocaust.. Yes.... imagine yourself without MINING...

PRO - MINING
May I humbly request not to use an offensive words against mining... why not give MINING industry a chance to prove that the our industry is for sustainable devt for country economic growth.. imagine yourself without mining...
I was born and raise in Guripan as a miner's son and experienced in mining industry for over 18 years.Guripan Mineral reserves can be developed by both local and foreign organization. Mining companies can tapped LGU, NGO's and even church as an important monitoring component on environmental, ethnics and social issues.
Thanking you.
