This contest is the first through the initiative of Pagadian City First Lady Ilang-ilang Fernandez Co together with the City Tourism Council chaired by Dr. Pricilla “Dicky" M. Fernandez.

"The Objectives of this contest is to develop young designers who may have the potential to become Professional Fashion Designers in the future and to provide an artistic and enjoyable activity for the young kids and teens," Ilang-ilang told this writer.

Each contestant is entitled to as many dress designs and has to bring her doll entries wearing the designers original creations (any doll; not necessarily a Barbie).

Each contestant will have to bring the following during the judging day:

  1. Sketch designs of the doll’s clothes in white bond paper using a pencil,
  2. Brief explanation why she made that design, written in simple English or Filipino, at least two to five sentences only;
  3. Name of dressmaker and list of materials used. The name of the dressmaker will not affect the judging.

The Prizes for the Elementary and Secondary level are the same; First Prize - P1,000, Second Prize - P700, Third Prize - P500, Fourth Prize - P400, and for the Fifth Prize - P350.

All entries will be displayed at the House of Dolls Booth in Rizal Park until the Chinese New Year on February 7, 2008. The criteria are the following; Fashion sense (Color, fit, shape) is 40%, originality of design (sketch will serve as reference) is 30%, Motif/Authenticity (including materials and accessories) is 30% a total of 100%.

It may be recalled that the House of Dolls was constructed on December 2007 so that our City Government may bring about and pioneer something new and unique such as the House of Dolls.

"We would like to cater purposely for the kids and teens who have fun playing  dolls. Actually, Tyra Co is the owner of these doll collection. This is the result of my bonding with my daughter Tyra during our free time activity, I kept on collecting Barbie Dolls and didn't mind to build a house out of my daughter's collection. we're happy to share this collection to the kids and teens for them to experience the way of Arts and Fashion in their own way of dressing a doll. This is the first time and through the Tourism Council we are planning to have this kind of activity yearly as one of the highlights during Christmas up to Chinese New Year,"  Ilang-ilang said.
