Pagadian City – At least 72 Lovers were married enmasse during a Valentine’s Day Mass Wedding tagged as Kasalan sa Pagadian 2008 held at the Liga City on February 14, 2008 which started at 9:00 o’clock in the morning. Videos and photos can be viewed below.

“Under Article 23, a total of 23 couples who are living together for more than five years with children and both at least 23 years old were automatically qualified to join without having to undergo seminar. The other 49 couples have to follow and comply all the requirements and procedures for a marriage license,” Mr. Leonardo C. Acorda, Pagadian City Civil Registrar, told this writer.

This Kasalan sa Pagadian is a yearly program of the City Government for free during Valentine’s Day since Mayor Samuel S. Co assumed office as Mayor. The objective of this event is to give importance to solving the common problem in the rural barangays where couples remain unmarried due to the financial burden a wedding will incur. It is also the City Government's way of giving importance to the time honored Filipino value of family in the community. Aside from that, the legality of existing relationships of live-in partners are confirmed giving legitimacy to their children, Mayor Co said.

Today's mass wedding is fewer compared to the 101 couples joined in matrimony last year held at the Pagadian City Gym.
