Pagadian City - With this year's theme "Sama-sama Tayo Tungo sa Pag-asenso" the 109th Independence Day will be celebrated by Pagadianons to commemorate our independence from foreign domination.
Opened by City Councilor Raffy Amor, the commemoration of the 109th Philippine Independence Day Celebration was indeed a succees. Government officials both of the City and Provincial Government together with their employees has joined the celebrations. Cerilles Emphasizes Fight Against Poverty Governor Auring Cerilles who ably represented by Vice Governor Roseller L. Ariosa made emphasis against our fight for poverty. In her message read by the vice governor,Governor Cerilles stated that,
Today, we have come to dare the people molded with oneness in this hallowed ground as an ascertion of our natural and alienable claim for freedom and independence. The 109 years had passed when Philippine Independence was first proclaimed in Kawit,Cavite in June 12 1898. It was such a glorius and historic event that higlightedthe playing of the Philippine anthem for the first time,the unfolding of our national flag,and the reading of the declaration of our independence that marked the new dawn of the Philippine Republic. This momentous occassion remind us of the true cost of freedom gallaintly fought by our forebears blood, life, and honor. Once more we breathed the sancitityof this herois past as we continually uphold and galvanized our committment to freedom,democracy and dignity as a Filipino People.
{sidebar id=5} Further Governor Cerilles stated that,"This commemoration must kindle among us the unfaultering unity and cooperation for us to triumph in the midst of challenges that we facing today and the years to come. The great sacrifices that our heroes has sold should starred us to work hard in building a strong republic were peace and prosperity abound." Cerilles stressed that the this year's theme "Sama-sama tayo tungo sa pagasenso" is a calling for us to unite and ensure our collective dreams for progress. Guests Other guests who celebrated with the government officials and employees, NGO,, Civic Groups, The Police and the Military were, DILG Director Loreto Bhagwani, Brigadier General Hilar io Atendido, ADC,1ID,PA who ably represented Major Generaln Nehemias Pajarito ,CG of the 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army, shared their messages of hope and heroism , and as individuals who want real independence from socio-economic endeavours.
Meanwhile, Mayor Samuel S. Co stressed that, " I am an uncompromising believer, in a vision of a greater Philippines, much to greater Pagadian. I dedicate my whole heart to help realize a better Pagadian City, I will be steadfast in my resolve and I will at all times strive and share this faith to my fellow countrymen and fellow Pagadianons".
The Mayor also invited the people to celebrate the upcoming celebration of the 38th Araw ng Pagadian, which falls on JUne 21, 2007.
The 109th Philippine Independence Day commemoration ended with the singing of "Ako ay Pilipino".
