“Nakakatanda: Gintong Tanglaw Tungo sa Kaunlaran” The Linggo ng Katandaang Pilipino (Elderly Seniors Week), the said local chapters with its local officials led by FSCAP Local President Mr. Alfonso Sipin initiated the weeks activities for the celebrations. From October 1 to 7, 2007, the elderly joined in a Thanksgiving Mass held at the San Jose Parish on its first day, Medical and Dental Services on its second day and Religious Recollection on its third day. The elderly were taught some common health problems on their fourth day by Dr. Delia Pastoriza. It made the senior citizens come up with a resolution to ask more help from the government to secure themselves from health problems. On its culmination, the Pagadian City Elderly chose their "Super Lolo" and "Super Lola" to culminate their activities. Pagadian’s Super "Lolo" (Grandfather) As told by his son-in-law, Reverend Cornelio Masong Sr., of Barangay Nazareth, Pagadian City, Super Lolo Pablo Suson Rivera is now 105 years Old. Lolo Abloy as his kin call him is a native of Ilihan, Tabugon, Cebu, and was born on October 14, 1902. His parents are Daniel Rivera and Rafayla Orrongan. Lolo Abloy survives as big brother to his three brothers when her mother passed away when he was still at the age of 11. Working as an errand boy for one peso a day, Lolo Abloy survived. He did not have any form of schooling, but he was a responsible brother. As years went by, he came to Mindanao bringing his three small brothers to find a better living. In Mindanao, Lolo Abloy being a responsible young man landed on a rice and corn miller in Misamis Occidental as a machinist. Because of his good work attitude, the owner made him “piniyalan or comprador” (trusted). From Misamis Occidental he walked to Zamboanga Peninsula (that time there was no means of transportation) and settled in Buenavista as he found his love of his life, Felomina Valmadres, a widow with 5 children, and own a parcel of land to till. Community Organizer
Lolo Abloy was also a community organizer were he organized a farmers group and became their leader, however luck did not come his way this time. He and his family sold their piece of land and transferred to Balas Mangkaw, (now Napolan). Before the War, Lolo Abloy, chose to become a farmer and earn a living by making broom made from coconut leaves, winnow ( native “nigo”) made from rattan and as pastime drinks a glass of tuba and smoke tobacco (Tinustos) only. His marriage with Felomina bore them five children, namely Braulio (deceased), Margarita (deceased), Dionisia born on 1947 (wife of Cornelio Masong, Sr.), Moises born on 1951, and Liliosa born on 1953 (Lolo Abloy’s caregiver). “Actually he does not have any other vice except smoking “tinustos” (tobacco leaf). He eats vegetables, corn grits, fish, and sometimes meat (if there are available” In-Law Cornelio said. Today, at 105 years, Lolo Abloy was chosen by the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP) Pagadian Chapter as their Super Lolo, a self-made man with still a complete set of teeth.
