About 35 High School students from twelve high schools here in Pagadian City attended and participated in a two day capability building seminar on Child Participation.
The students came from the cream of the crop of each school to enhance their leadership skills in terms of child participation and decision making. They also participated in the identification of children’s issues and concern and to identify capacity building activities. As a whole, the United Nations Children Education Fund or UNICEF sponsored the 2-day seminar and released funds for the said activity under MARE 2007-145 for their meals and snacks. Meanwhile, Governor Aurora E. Cerilles who was ably represented by Provincial Administrator Mr. Dodong Degamo, said in her written message that not only being a child friendly province, she thanks the UNICEF for the CFC 6 program in which the province is also a recipient. Other activities such as the child friendly movement, history of UNCRC, fundamental rights of children and what is child participation were also tackled during the 2-day seminar. “ this activities will surely help the children in their capacity to talk, mingle, and decide for their sake in the real world, and this will help them reach their goals and free from child abuse” Allan June Molde said. On its second day, the students were allowed to discuss matters on their own way after a workshop on role playing was conducted.
