Former Dimataling Vice Mayor Natoy Bonga for Alimudin family sticks to a gentleman's agreement in ending rido by honoring the word of honor.
Clan vendettas or "Rido" in Dinas and the neighboring towns in District II of Zamboanga del Sur is near to end when feuding Muslim clans, except of the late Vice Mayor Abdulbasit Maulana’s, agreed to “forgive and forget” the atrocities it had caused, two years ago.

Dinas Rido is Basically Resolved

It was a historic event for Dinas town last January 14, when families  involved in rido attended the ‘concluding peace negotiation’ initiated by the officialdom of Dinas headed by Mayor Wilfredo Asoy, Sr. after series of dialogues facilitated by the Provincial Government’s brainchild - Council of Elders and 53rd IB Battalion Commander Samuel Gayonggorza at Camp Major David Subido in Guipos.

The Provincial Council of Elders was created by Governor Aurora E. Cerilles composed of respected Muslim leaders and elders to pacify camps of warring clans to deter more atrocities in the area.  Major Gayonggorza inherited the task to resolve rido through peaceful means from his predecessor, LTC Emmanuel Sison.

With designated representatives, clans of Lao, Mustapha and Alimudin agreed to end war against one another at Dinas municipal gym anchored with the “word of honor”.

That memorable occasion was witnessed by Most Senior Board Member Juan C. Regala who represented Governor Cerilles, Former Dinas Mayor and Board Member Basilio Vidad, 102nd Brigade Commander - Gen. Jovencio Magalso (based in Ipil, ZSibugay), DILG Provincial Director Abcede Asjali, Police Senior Inspector Romulo Suarez for PNP Provincial Director Ramon Ochotorena, local officials of Dinas, including the parents and kins of the ambush victims at the height of rido last December 15, 2005.

Despite suggestion of the ZamboSur Council of Elders headed by Datu Onan Dacula that a “written peace covenant” should be signed among and between the involved families, former Dimataling Vice Mayor Natoy Bonga, who represented the Alimudin family vehemently said that their gentlemen’s agreement to honor the “word of honor” is already enough and promised not to initiate move that would harm any of them.  Significantly, also, the involved parties have agreed not anymore ask for “blood money” in alimony of the lost lives.

Mayor Asoy and the rest of the witnesses respected and honored the way the concerned parties recognized their peace agreement.  However, the Mayor  emphasized that whoever breaks it must face the rule of law.

As symbol of peace and reconciliation, representatives of Lao, Alimudin, Mustafa, Maulana, Andi exchanged hand shakes as well as hugged one another.
