Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur – At least three suspected members of the Communist Party of the Philippines, New Peoples Army (CPP/NPA) was reportedly killed in an encounter between the Composite team of the Alpha Coy of 53rd Infantry Battalion and Delta Coy of 5th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army.

The encounter happened at the tri-boundary of Sitio Litan, Barangay Poblacion, Barangay Libayoy, municipality of Tigbao and  Barangay Lucuan, municipality of Lakewood all of this province on October 19, 2007 at 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon.

Reports gathered by the News and More at www.unsapa.com said that while the Philippine Army troopers of the First Infantry (Tabak) Division lead by Lt. Pedro Dacanay conducted their foot patrol in their area of responsibilities after receiving some reports regarding the presence of lawless elements meet and encountered more or less 30-armed men believed members of the CPP/NPA.

Firefight Lasted 45 Minutes 

The encounter lasted to 45-minutes which resulted the killing of the 3-unidentified members of the said group and no casualty being reported from the government troops. The Army recovered in the area of encounter 2-M16 armalite rifles, 1-improvised claymor mine, 1-long improvised 60-rounds magazine and 1-link of caliber M60.

The Army Initial investigation conducted disclosed that the 3-killed were identified later as couple Bobby Pardillo aka Larry, Deputy secretary of (Front Committee) FC Kara, Perlita Lumid aka Elsie/Iren, Medical Officer and a certain aka Redem from Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte, Commanding Officer of Squad-1, Sandatahang Unit Propaganda (SYP) of FC Kara. Their cadaver were brought to Gamalinda funeral homes in Pagadian City.

Also recovered by the Government troops in the said area are Medical Paraphernalia, handbook, and some personal belongings.

 Alert Status

Zamboanga del Sur Police Provicial Office Director P/SSupt. Ramon Ochotorena directed all Municipal Police Station to be in “Alert status” per reports that the NPA operating in the province will launch attack in any opportune time to retaliate their comrades on the recent encounter in Lakewood and Tigbao where 3-NPA members died and to monitor any enemy plans to attack any PNP and military establishment or to establish respective camp defense plan in order to be prepared for any harrashment.
