Pagadian Singing Priest Fr. Joy Suson
Pagadian Singing Priest Fr. Joy Suson
Fr. Joy Suson filled the Biyahe Na! stage with music of peace and nature in Konsyerto Alang sa Kalinaw during the ZamboSur 1st Summer Fest.

Fr. Joy Suson, is a parish priest of San Pablo catholic church, a composer who recorded three albums of his own.  In line with its 1st Summer Fest, Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts (PTCA) Officer Taton Padayhag invited him to perform and share his music through a mini concert calling for peace and development particularly in Mindanao.  He calls his band as FRJS for FR. Joy Suson).]

With him was the cultural group known as PIETA or the Parish Indigenous Educational Theatre Artists who are the youth of San Pablo and were given a break by Fr. Suson to perform in public.

The said concert was not only intended for calling peace across Mindanao but also summoning everyone to take care of Mother Nature.  Fr. Suson hoped that through their performances, people would be able to give attention to the condition of the environment and make a move in solving its problems.

Filemon Blanco, artistic director of the PTCAO said that part of the event’s rationale was to promote local artists and performing groups.  “We took pride and showed appreciation for having Fr. Joy Suson’s group in the concert, which is one of the respected musical groups in this province today.”

Before the FRJS band rendered their performance, a ritual was done with Padayhag and Blanco lighting the giant letters of the word KALINAW like torches.

Most of Fr. Suson’s songs were reflections of the various political and social problems in the country, especially the conflicts in Mindanao, as well as songs that speak of the country’s environmental situation. Among the songs he performed was “Kultura”, which tells about the conflict among the three races in Mindanao – the Christians, Muslims, and Lumads.
