Fresh from the success of the Biyahe Na! sa ZamboSur, the Agri-tourism and Heritage Complex (AHC) in Dao is now transformed into a Christmas destination for the tri-people of Zamboanga del Sur.
ZamboSur having institutionalized the Megayon concept (harmony among the tri-people settlers) - every time a big celebration is observed, like the Founding Anniversary, Governor Auring E. Cerilles directed Anthony Frederick “Taton” Padayhag, designate Provincial Tourism, Culture & Arts Officer to have a Christmas Festival tailored in this concept. This early, the spirit of Christmas is everywhere at the 12-hectare Agri-tourism & Heritage Complex. Becoming a landmark of tourism initiative for Zamboanga del Sur, AHC showcases a Megayon monument found opposite the office of the Provincial Tourism Office which was historically unveiled by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself during the 55th Founding Anniversary of the Province last September 17. ZamboSur Christmas Festival 2007Declared as tourism zone of the province, the AHC will again serve as venue for the first of its kind - ZamboSur Christmas Festival 2007 in observance of the Yuletide Seasons. The ZamboSur Christmas Festival 2007 will kick off from December 10 and ends on January 6, 2008.
According to Tourism Officer Taton Padayhag, the Christmas Festival 2007 has 4 elements, namely: 1) Competition of Best Booth among and between the 26 towns and Pagadian City depicting Christmas symbols and attractions; 2) Giant Lantern Show participated in by the different departments of the Provincial Government and National Government Agencies; 3) Adopt-A-Tree-for-Christmas project of the 16 campuses of JH Cerilles State College; and 4) Nightly variety shows sponsored by different private sectors, academe and other organizations. Mainstay AttractionsPadayhag also describes the mainstay attractions at the AHC as follows: a) a Cultural Village that showcases a Subanen native house and small houses of the Christians and Muslims built as one community; b) at the upper portion are found the Ornamental and Flower Gardens; c) at the interior part are the 27 booths of the 26 municipalities and Pagadian City arranged circumferentially where at the center is the site for nightly variety shows; d) at the far side of the tourist zone await the longest Canopy Walk and Zipline facilities in Mindanao for adventurous peers, family and friends to experience the thrill and excitement: e) while approaching the AHC, tourists will be entertained by the fascinating butterflies at the Butterfly Garden just few steps from the ZamboSur Medical Center.
The Provincial Tourism Officer believes that best endorsers are those who have actual experience what are in store at the AHC. In this light, he invites all Zambosurians to come and visit the AHC for them to promote it to their friends and relatives from other places to come here too. Padayhag says that the Christmas Festival is part of the continuing development of the Agro-tourism and Heritage Complex. It is in line with Cerilles Administration’s over–all thrust of marketing the complex to residents of Zamboanga del Sur as well as neighboring provinces as the newest theme park destination in Western Mindanao.
