Among the 225 municipalities identified as recipients of the Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP), Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur bags the first Notice to Proceed certificate from the World Bank with project worth P20-Million.
MRDP is a poverty reduction program which aims to improve the income and food security of the rural poor and indigenous communities in Mindanao with World Bank as main funding institution. Significantly, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo together with World Bank Country Director Maryse Gautier will award the Notice to Proceed to Bayog mayor Mary L. Cartalla during the 55th Anniversary Program of the province on September 17. Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap will also be around to assist the President and Gautier. Bayog municipal officials snatch the break of availing MRDP project so as to rehabilitate the 11-kilometer farm to market road which they find difficult to do at the cost of P20,088,647.00. With only P500-T as counterpart, Bayog officials can give employment to local residents as a long term effect, it will help farmers increase their income. Mayor Cartalla told this weekly it has been her ardent intention to improve the road condition of her municipality which MRDP-2 is capable of. She was elated that her municipality is given priority over the rest of 225 municipalities in 27 recipient provinces in Mindanao.For Zamboanga del Sur, 8 municipalities including Bayog are identified recipients of MRDP. They are Kumalarang, Lakewood, Margosatubig, Midsalip, Tigbao, Dimataling and Vincenzo Sagun whose projects applied depend on the most pressing need per municipality Last update : 04-10-2007 17:49
