Hon. Arnold Gavenia Pagadian City – City Council approved the Resolution additional P2.00 fare rate increase during its 41st regular session on Tuesday June 3, 2008. The fare rate from P7.00 will be implemented immediately in the amount of P9.00 after the issuance of the fare matrix or taripa.
The City Council approved the fare rate increase thru a resolution instead of a city ordinance because the increased is only temporary in nature based in abnormality of gasoline prices in the market, Councilor Arnold Gavenia told www.unsapa.com. The Committee Report No. 097 submitted by the Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation, Communications and Franchising (CPUTCF) chaired by Councilor Gavenia specifies that the reasonable fare rate increase is only P2.00 for the first kilometer and additional of P.50 for every succeeding kilometer. Also included in the approved resolution was the student discount of P1.00 and P1.80 for the senior citizens and persons with disability. It was recalled that public hearing was conducted by CPUTCF following the petition request in the amount of P10.00 or a P3.00 fare rate increase and submitted to the City Council by the tricycle sector thru its Interim Federated President of the different tricycle associations and individuals Jesuseller “:Dodong” Duterte, PITDOCON President. “Before the public hearing, the price of the gasoline was only P51.60 per litter and two days after P1.00 was increased and few days after it was rapidly increased up to P55.11. So, I hope that the riding public will understand and consider the plight of our tricycle sector for the immediate increase of fare rate following the rapid increase of gasoline in the market. And to the tricycle sector also, please continue to serve the riding public with courtesy and good relationship to the traffic enforcer by following the traffic rules and regulations,” Councilor Gavenia appealed. On Monday, June 10, 2008, all tricycle drivers agreed to express their heart-felt thanks and gratitude to the riding public by way of putting fresh flowers at their sidecar in front of the passenger’s seat, as they argued that flowers are signs of unity and good relationship between the tricycle drivers and their passengers. “We are also offering bonus by way of giving discount to all student passengers during the opening of classes by charging them only P5.00 fare instead of P8.00 from their house going to their school,” Dodong Duterte said.
