Police identified the fatality as Maximo Calamba Jr., aka Junior, 47 years old, married, farmer and a resident of the same place who sustained gunshot wounds at his head and other parts of his body. The other two wounded were identified as Reynante Pillas, 28 years old, married, also a resident of the same place and claims to be a member of the 5th Infantry Battalion based in Tarakan, Dinas who suffered slight gunshot wound on his right hand and Ronald Escasenas, 27 years old, single, farmer, also of the same place who suffered gunshot wound on his right leg. Police investigation disclosed that while the victims were on their way to verify a series of gunfire at the said place, unidentified and undetermined numbers of armed men believed to have took advanced post at the area opened fire at them with the use of different kinds of caliber of firearms based in the empty shells recovered from the crime scene. Prior to the burst of gunfire one of the perpetrators shouted in the Tagalog dialect, “Pisiong, lumabas ka dyan” referring to Mr. Pisiong Dayaman who was also riddled with bullets. A horse owned by a certain Barangay Councilor Henry Digan was also hit and killed by the stray bullets. After the incident the suspects fled towards an unknown direction using the darkness of the night. Recovered from the crime scene by the residents near the area and later turned over to the police authorities to used as evidence were 102 empty shells of M16 armalite rifle, 29 empty shells of M14 rifle, 6 empty shells of carbine and 1 empty shell of M79.
