PNP Provincial Director Ramon Ochotorena, file photo. “Don’t touch any un-attended baggage, instead report it immediately to the police.” This was according to M/Sgt. Felix Jumawan of the local Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team and during the PNP briefing on security measures.
The security briefing was conducted for the local banks and businesses in the city held May 23, 2008 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod complex, this city. The briefing was attended by members of the Bankers Association of Pagadian (BAP) City and some representatives of big business establishments in Pagadian City and was purposely conducted to beef up security measures and to prevent acts of criminalities and terrorisms from happening in the city.
According to P/Supt. Ramon Ochotorena, PNP Provincial Director, similar briefings will be conducted to all security guards in the city for them to be more alert and play an active participation in the keeping of peace and order in the city.It can be recalled that a robbery hold-up occurred in a local RCBC branch in Laguna City a week ago that resulted in the killing of eight (8) of its employees and the stashing of more than 20 million pesos. The participants got a taste of what a cellphone-triggered bomb is like when a firecracker suddenly blew off during the briefing. The firecracker was attached to a cellphone as a triggering device and exploded when it received a text message from Smart. The EOD explains that cellphones are now being used as a triggering device for bombs, so it is important to know how to detect them. According to Police Inspector Fernando Limen, Deputy Chief of Police of Pagadian City, the briefing is a continuing initiative of the Office of the Chief of Police of Pagadian City.
