Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur – Police investigation said that at about 9:00 pm last August 14, 2007 at Purok-1 in Barangay San Vicente, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur, the victim Ricky Lantacan y Pon, 31 years old, married, utility/driver of Mahayag Municipal Hospital, already drunk, got angry at the store owner and challenged everyone for a fist fight.

Since no one reacted to his challenge, he pulled-out a handgun that prompted the suspect, Epifanio Sebrero y Baterna, aka “Boy”, 50 years old, married and a Barangay Kagawad of Barangay of the same barangay to shoot Lantacan in close range hitting Lantacan in the left armpit. After the incident, it was found out that the firearm being used by the victim was only a toy gun.

The victim was brought immediately to the Mahayag Municipal Hospital amd later transferred to MHARS Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Ozamiz City.

The suspect who is a chairman of the Peace and Order Council voluntarily surrendered to the Barangay Chairman, Cosme Villarmino, and turned-over to the responding policemen his handgun, a caliber .357 revolver with 2-live ammunition, 1-empty shell and Toy Gun of the victim.
