San Pablo, Zamboanga del Sur – The members of the Board of Election Tellers together with the joint Police Operatives and the Elements of the 53rd IB, Philippine Army who acted to secure the conduct of honest, order and peaceful Barangay and SK elections were fired upon by an armed group at Ticala Island, San Pablo on October 29, 2007 at about 6:30 early morning.
Initial investigation disclosed that the Election Officers together with the government security force while on board the sea craft and about to dock at Ticala Island, heard a burst of explosion believed to be a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG). Due to fear that their lives might be in danger, they went back to San Pablo Municipal Hall. At about 9:00 o’clock in the morning, incumbent Barangay Chairman of Barangay Ticala Island, Yasser O. Samal reported to the Police Authorities that the group of a certain Inggo Samal is responsible in shooting the RPG towards the peak of the Island that created fear among the populace in the area that resulted to the evacuation mostly of the residents of said barangay to Barangay Marcos village, also of San Sablo. The group of Inggo is engaged in extortion activities in the high seas of Yllana Bay and also supporting the opponent candidate, incumbent Barangay Chairman Yasser added. At about 11:45am, ZPPO PD P/SSupt. Ramon Ochotorena arrived San Pablo together with one team of the 905th PMG to assist the Board of Election Tellers to Barangay Ticala island together with the operatives of 907th PMG headed by PI Rommel Etdew and the elements of the 53rd IB who also augmented the Police Municipal Station in the pacilitation of the Barangay and SK election.
