Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur – At least five minors were reportedly kidnapped by six armed persons but was released later at Barangay Dagum, Lakewood on October 30, 2007 at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Reports reaching the Police Provincial Office that one Mila Sumalinog, married, mother of the five minors reported the kidnapping incident to the Lakewood Municipal Police Station. According to her the incident happened at the vicinity of Purok-2.

Mila, a resident of the said place identified the six suspects as Onel Bantayan, Julie Batayan, Elmer Bantayan, Arnel Bantayan, Lito Bantayan and Jory Tumbale all residents of Sitio Dakan, of the same Barangay. They were armed with home made shotgun, locally known as “Baliontud”.

Elements of the 53rd IB proceeded to the area for clearing and confirmation of the said reports and it was learned on the following day, October 31, 2007, that the five minors who were kidnapped were freed by their captors at about 2:00 pm near the area and was turned-over to their parents unharmed.

The five minors were identified as Marife, 11 years old, Emelyn, 8years old, Federico, 6yrears old, Mefie, 4years old and Alvin, 2years old, all are Sumalindong Family.

The suspects are still at large and the police are now conducting a follow-up investigation to establish the motive of the kidnapping incident.
