4 suspects of illegal drugs with Mayor Co and COP Maclang
Pagadian City – Four suspects of illegal drugs and one suspected cattle rustler were presented to the media during a press conference called by City Mayor Samuel Co recently together with the City Police Chief (COP) Reynaldo Maclang.

The four suspects were arrested by the joint operatives of Presidential Drug Enforcement Administration (PDEA-9) headed by PCI Maldan D. Mokaram and Pagadian City Police Station headed by PCI Reynaldo Maclang during a raid at Santiago District on April 13, 2008, 8:30 in the evening.

The four arrested suspects were identified as couple Rahmodin Sanal Calalagan and Benlinda Bernaldo Calalagan, owner of the raided house, Arvie Gallemit Armero and Crystal Jane Ponce Caballero all resident of this city.

“The arrest of the 4 suspects are the result of a series of surveillance operations against illegal drugs conducted by the agent of PDEA-9 and after the confirmation of a search warrant in order to conduct the raid,” COP Maclang told the reporters.

COP Maclang also expressed his thanks to Mayor Co’s support to the police operations against all form of criminalities in the city and also to the concerned citizen’s trust to the police who are always continuously giving us information.

When asked why most of the suspects in drug related cases are released after only a few days of detention, Mayor Co answered

Before our police operatives experienced difficulties in their operations against illegal drugs because first, we don’t have trained technical men from the police who are in charge of anti-drugs operation, second, we don’t have a drug laboratory in Pagadian making it necessary for confiscated drugs to be brought to Zamboanga City for laboratory examination. But now, with the presence of PDEA-9 agents and trained policemen for anti-drug operations, we can assure the public if not to totally eradicate, at least minimize their activities,” Mayor Co answered when asked why most of the suspects in drug related cases are released after only a few days of detention.

“The City is also planning of putting-up a Drug Rehabilitation facility somewhere in Barangay Lison Valley if the private sector is not capable of putting-up a drug rehabilitation center. It is not easy to operate a drug rehabilitation facility, it needs trained personnel to manage and to operate the said facility, Mayor Co disclosed.

In a separate operation, Pagadian City Police arrested a cattle rustler who has a standing warrant of arrest.
