Governor Auring E. Cerilles has urged municipal mayors to strengthen the local health zones which may serve as instrument in securing funds from foreign donors.
For effective delivery of health services, the Provincial Health Office has grouped Zamboanga del Sur municipalities according to their proximity with one another where each Local Government Unit has to put up P50-T as seed capital for its operation. However, the Governor was informed that only 10 percent of the 27 mayors have given their share. As she graced the Province-wide Investment Plan for Health (PIPH) workshop of the Yllana Bay Inter Local Health Zone last August 22 she reminded the mayors to give their contributions. Cerilles also noted that of the 12 municipal mayors expected to attend the PIPH workshop, only 5 mayors and a vice mayor were present. They were: Mayors Abubakar Afdal (Labangan); Edmundo Dalid (Tigbao); Bonifacio Vega, Jr. (Tukuran); Paulino Fanilag, Sr. (Mahayag); Francisco Oraiz, Jr. (Guipos) ang Vice Mayor Danilo Taucan (San Pablo). While the Mayors of Bayor, Dumingag, Lakewood, Molave and Pagadian City failed to come. Cerilles said she expected a hundred percent attendance of the mayors invited for the PIPH workshop for the implementation of FOURmula One (F1). FOURmula One is another daring Health Sector Reform Agenda that seeks to inculcate greater efficiency in the delivery of health interventions, Cerilles explained. In fact, she was very grateful that Zamboanga del Sur is one of the 3 provinces in Mindanao to be included in the second batch of provinces as roll-out sites for FOURmula One. She said that Zambosur’s inclusion to the FOURmula One (F1) gives her the great opportunity to define and explain direction that will lead her to attain the much-needed health reforms. But they can implement F1, there should be a 5-year Province-wide Investment Plans for Health (PIPH) as an instrument in forging a more potent DOH-LGU partnership for better health outcome, more responsive health system and equitable health care financing, Cerilles stressed. The workshop was facilitated by DOH Assistant Regional Director Edgardo Gonzaga with Provincial Health Officer Corazon S. Ariosa attended by municipal health officers, budget officers and planning coordinators. Last update : 08-09-2007 15:24
