Three top officials of the International Monitoring Team of the GRP-MILF Peace Process Ceasefire Committee paid a courtesy call before Governor Auring E. Cerilles in her office here Monday, February 04.
They were: MGen. Datuk Mat Yasin Bin Mat Daud, the head of the mission representing the Malaysian Government that hosts the GRP-MILF Peace Talks; BGen. Reynaldo D. Sealana from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Mr. Von Al Haq, chairman of the Moro National Liberation Front.
Datuk Yasin expressed optimism to the lady Governor Cerilles that before he retires he would be glad to see the settlement of peace problem in Mindanao. Yasin is leading the 4th batch of a 30-man Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities in Mindanao since the GRP-MILF Peace Talks started 10 years ago. Governor Cerilles was grateful to be visited with the International Monitoring Team. She stressed that as a public official, who currently heads the Regional Peace and Order Council, she also relentlessly works for real peace in Mindanao so that investors would come in. “Let us work together for a peaceful Mindanao,” Cerilles told her guests. To make their visit memorable to the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the Malaysian military official left a memento (with a white dove) to Cerilles which he described total peace for Mindanao.Similarly, BGen. Sealana, offered a small token to the Governor. According to Lt.Col. George V. Avila, Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operation of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division said the International Monitoring Team toured from Lanao del Sur and Norte, proceeded to Zamboanga del Sur and Pagadian City towards Zamboanga Sibugay to Zamboanga City. In Zamboanga del Sur the ceasefire monitoring committee first visited to Tabak Commanding General Nehemias G. Pajarito. Their next stop was with City Sammy Co then with Governor Cerilles. At the City Hall, Mayor Co underscored his concern on sea piracy which he conferred with MILF’s Von Al Haq. The latter, on the one hand, assured the Mayor to help. On the bruited GRP-MILF Peace Talks brokered by the Malaysian Government, Von Al Haq, clarified that he has no participation on the talks but he is aware that it bogged down due to their claim of ancestral domain which the Philippine Government finds difficult to settle. However, he was hopeful that this issue will be resolved.
