Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur - A total of 30-barrels of chemical compound known as Sodium Cyanide were intercepted and confiscated by the police operatives atBarangay Depore, Bayog on November 6, 2007 at 8:50 in the evening.
The Bayog Municipal Police Station lead by Police Inspector Ryean Lhoyd Suegay Rado responded immediately to the report of illegal transportation and shipment of the said chemicals. The police successfully intercepted and confiscated the said contraband while stored under the house of a certain Zaldy Bides of Barangay Depore. This are reportedly ready for shipment to the mine site in Sitio Balabag, Barangay Depore for distribution to a certain Rodmil, owner of a Mill plant operating in the area.
Police initial investigation also disclosed that the 30-barrels of Cyanide Chemicals are owned by Mrs. P. D. Luzviminda Gerenosa, a businesswoman of Poblacion Bayog. The said chemicals were turned-over to the nearest DENR office of the said municipality for proper filing of appropriate case in court for violation of R.A. 6969.
