Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur – An incumbent Barangay Chairman of Barangay Gawil, Kumalarang, Alexander Gerodias 41 years old, married and now running as Barangay Kagawad of the same Barangay, line-up of Mr. Plancio Poleran who is running as Barangay Chairman was shot to death by the identified suspect armed with Baby Armalite rifle on October 28, 2007 at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Police Operatives who responded in the crime scene in their initial investigation disclosed that one of the eye witnesses revealed that the suspect was identified as Jason Maloloy-on, 41 years old, single and formerly a resident of Suminot, Zamboanga del Sur and now presently residing at Poblacion Kumalarang. Jason armed with M16 Baby Armalite Rifle appeared at the said barangay looking for the whereabouts of Barangay Chairman Gerodias and after he saw the Barangay Chairman, the suspect intentionally met the latter and thereupon fired his firearm on a full automatic burst until the victim fell down to the road. The suspect who is not yet contented, held the victim’s shirt and fired again in full automatic mode. Upon confirming the death of Alexander, Jason rode on his single motorcycle XRM Honda and fled towards an unknown direction. Immediately the responding Police authorities conducted manhunt operations against the suspect but yielded negative result. However, at about 1:00 o’clock dawn on October 29, 2007 Kumalarang Mayor Allan Damas called thru Cellular phone to the Police authorities that the said suspect appeared at his residence and voluntarily surrendered to him. Mayor Damas turned over Jason Maloloy-on to the responding police authorities.
