KARANCHO was activated in the year 1996 at Tagum town now Tagum City of Davao Del Sur by the PNP to help solve the “Habal-Habal” problem that causes more trouble and accidents in the streets of Tagum and nearby communities.

The word Karancho is a Portuguese in origin meaning “of the same ranch”. KARANCHO is now with its acronym, Kababayan Riders Association for New Cultural Harmony and Order.

The Pagadian City-Zamboanga del Sur chapter was founded last October 21, 2006, and According to its provincial chairman, Mr. Mervin Battung, within the span of one year, the chapter was able to accomplish public service, especially in road disaster and management.

“For our first year of operation as an auxiliary also of the Traffic management were we are now deputized by PNP-TMG Region 9, 5 car napping cases was solve thru our help and support. The Tigbao Tragedy that cost more or less 5o life, KARANCHO was able to augment its rescue team to the Provincial Government, the AFP-PNP Medical Team, the PNRC, DSWD and the Municipal Government of Tigbao, ZDS.” Battung said.

KARANCHO are enthusiasts of motorcycle driving  and are trained traffic managers. As an auxiliary of the Traffic management Group of the PNP, KARANCHO also are public servant in case of emergencies especially on road accidents and assistance. 

“But we have to survive as a people, KARANCHO Zamboanga del Su8r is now initiating a Multi Purpose Cooperative dubbed as “Kauban sa KARANCHO” MPC to help our members financial need.” And I thank the national management of KARANCHO that they are willing to support this endeavor for the KARANCHO families.” Battung adds.

KARANCHO is abided with its 5 pillars to promote Brotherhood, Unity, Solidarity, Humility and Camaraderie. In its local chapter, KARANCHO Zamboanga del Sur is now enjoined by more or less 2,000 members all over the 23 municipalities and one city of the province.

During the Biyahe Na Zamboanga Del Sur when the President visit the province she said that "ang mga KARANCHO Kaibigan ko 'yan" PGMA is the inspirational and national consultant of KARANCHO.
