Tangub City – The people of Pagadian City have gained from a visit by Mayor Sammy Co to Tangub City. The youthful mayor was invited by Tangub City Mayor Jenny Tan to grace the final judging of the Christmas Light Display contest.

Tangub City is known as the Christmas Symbol Capital of the Philippines. Senator Loren Legarda was there as the guest speaker of the event.

Mayor Co personally handed his Letter Request to Senator Legarda at Tangub City on January 8, 2007. Together with the Mayor are the news media of Pagadian including www.unsapa.com as represented by this writer and his colleagues. The project was the construction of a Protected Wall/Resettlement for Urban Poor at Purok Darussalam, Sta. Lucia District, this city. It has a total cost of P40-million and Senator Legarda has approved 40% or P15-million as her counterpart of the said project.

“I am very thankful to Senator Loren Legarda for approving P15-million as her 40% counterpart to augment our local funds in order to realize the construction of Protected Wall/Resettlement project for Urban Poor at Purok Darussalam at Sta. Lucia District. This is a P40-million worth project and we have already spending about 9-million,” Mayor Samuel S. Co told the reporters.

“A Plaza and Children’s Park which is part of this undertaking shall be named ‘Senator Loren Legarda Plaza and Children’s Park,’ this will be one way of acknowledging her noble contribution to the City of Pagadian,” Mayor Co disclosed.

It was learned that the construction of the Protected Wall is planned to reclaim and build a palace wall facade for the shelter of the urban poor. This has a land area of two to three hectares that will accommodate more than 500 households at 30-square meters lot area per household at P20-thousand per lot payable within 5 to 10 years.

“The houses will be limited only for a 2-story structure so that it will not be higher than the Protected Wall,” Mayor Co added.

Pagadian City's First Lady, Ilang-ilang was also invited in the occasion. The Commanding General of the Army's First Infantry "Tabak" Division, based in Pulacan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, Gen. Nehemias Pajarito was also present.
