Dumalinao. Zamboanga del Sur – A man was stabbed to death by his companion who felt insulted by the victim's jokes at Purok Loy-a Barangay Sibucao, Dumalinao, at 6:00 pm of September 8, 2007.

Probably insensitive words mixed with alcohol have turned a friendly atmosphere into a deadly stabbing incident in Dumalinao. 

The victim is identified as Cresenciano Bagalanon, 23 years old, single, farmer and a resident of Dipolog City and temporarily residing at the house of Patricia Naciongayo, the owner of the coconut plantation where the victim is working. He sustained a single fatal stab wound at the lower left side of his nipple that caused his untimely death.

Police investigation disclosed that the suspect identified as Alberto Fallares, 55 years old, married, farmer and a resident of Barangay Sibucao, together with the victim and two other companions Reynaldo Macaambac and Deborah Naciongayo were working, husking coconut for copra at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon near the “Landahan” (where the coconut being dried for copra).

While the four continued working, they were also laughing while telling jokes and stories. They were also drinking tuba or coconut wine mixed with Vino Kulapu. Renaldo and Deborah have already cautioned the victim Cresenciano not to overdo his jokes to avoid any misunderstanding and trouble.

A few minutes later the suspect Alberto went home since his house was only a distance of more or less 200-meters away from their working place. It was raining a few minutes later when the suspect returnedand confronted victim. Threatening words and heated altercation between the two were heard until such time the suspect drew his sharp stainless steel kitchen knife from his waist and pointed it at the victim, Reynaldo and Deborah who witnessed the incident told the police.

Because of the extreme fear, the two witnesses decided to leave the area to evade trouble. After walking only a few meters they saw the suspect running away fleeing the scene. They decided then to return to the scene and discovered the victim already lying down and bath ed in his own blood. They reported immediately the incident to the police.

Dumalinao Police operatives headed by COP Police Inspector Joel D. Nosa responded to the crime scene and brought the victim to the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Hospital who was pronounced dead by the attending Physician.

Alberto although reportedly having fled, voluntarily surrendered the following day September 9, 2007 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning to Chief of Police Nosa. The suspect also sustained a hack wound and is undergoing Medical treatment at the Provincial Hospital.
