Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – Two minors were arrested in a Buy-Bust operation after the Police operatives confiscated from their possession sachets of "shabu".
The two suspects were arrested at Barangay Bulanit, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur at 11:30am, August 31, 2006. They were identified as Omar Baco y Dumagay Jr. and Suharto Sasao y Esmael.Confiscated from them were four decks of heat sealed sachets and 16 small heat sealed sachets of shabu, 2-hundred pesos bill as marked money. "Shabu" is a Japanese term of a speed drug and is a form of amphetamine that include methamphetamine hydrochloride and amphetamine sulfate. These drugs are commonly referred in the west as "speed", "meth" or "ice". It is known here in the Philippines and other asian countries as "shabu". It is a powerful stimulant and some believe the most widely used illegal drug in the country. A cheap replacement for cocaine, it is used by truck and even bus drivers and others who work long hours, but also by teenage girls who want to go on diet and lose weight. Students cramming for exams are known to use this drug to avoid sleep. Police Operatives lead by P/Inspt. Homer Dumalag under the supervision of P/Sinspt Oscar Tan Buenaobra lead the operation against the suspects.
