Governor Aurora E. Cerilles released this press statement to disprove allegations that formaldehyde or formalin was found in vegetables produced in Zamboanga del Sur.
PRESS STATEMENTThe Cerilles-Ariosa Administration is strongly advocating bio-organic farming and indeed, it produces bio-organic fertilizer essential in restoring the depleted productivity of soil in the province caused by constant use of chemical-based fertilizers. As Governor, it is my duty to insure that my constituents are healthy and productive. Hence, it is great to inform the public that vegetables grown in the different municipalities of our province are safe and healthful.
Our vegetables growers, like in Bayog, attest that their produce are enough to supply the local market; although there are a few who raise bell peppers and tomatoes and sell them at Imelda, Sibugay but never to Zamboanga City, as what have been found out by Provincial Agriculturist Marilyn IS Bersales.
This fact is contrary to allegations that there was an instance that vegetables coming from Zamboanga del Sur were discovered with the presence of formaldehyde or formalin.
The undersigned vehemently belied it as a matter of fact, we rule out the use of chemicals and preservatives especially on vegetables basically to extend its freshness that pose harm to consumers.
It was his wickedness, whoever did such fabricated and vicious tale about our province as it had no basis at all.
Hence, I am appealing to my fellow Zambosurians not to believe at once should they hear any story to this effect, unless properly sourced and proven by authorities.
Thank you.
