A night filled with the richness of arts and culture as young individuals showcased their learning and talents in Pasundayag: Panday Sining sa Tag-Araw Recital as part of the 1st ZamboSur Summer Fest.

It was May 9 when outputs of the culture and arts workshops held last April were  performed live by the workshop participants (high school students). Their artworks and creative writing (poem and short story) were likewise exhibited at the ZamPen Showcase Building where the recital was held within the Agro-tourism and Heritage Complex of the Provincial Government Center in Dao.

Board Member Felicidad Funtanilla, chairperson on the Committee on Culture and Arts, expressed her praises, gratitude and pride of the students’ achievements. “Your performances today are the expressions of a culture distinctly Filipino. In what you did today, you have enriched our culture and carried on the tradition of a talented and art-loving people”, she said.

Funtanilla added that the performers have clearly demonstrated the vibrancy and richness of Philippine culture, also the wealth and the country’s history and community, as well as Zamboanga del Sur’s unique tradition and history.

The different workshops in the Summer Fest were intended to develop the artistic potentials and cultural sensibilities of the youth. “We have talents in our youth and that’s what we’re trying to showcase and build,” said Anthony Frederick Padayhag, Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts officer.

Workshop Director Felimon Blanco added that with the youth developed in their artistic and cultural skills and talents they would be our future artists and for Zamboanga del Sur to aim to be the next Center of the Arts in Mindanao. He also expressed gratitude to the trainers of the different workshops, some of them were from MSU-IIT Integrated Performing Arts and UP Davao.

Last April’s 13-day workshop was made successful in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office and was supported by the National Commission on Culture and Arts, it was learned.
