Even without his approved congressional funds, newly elected Congressman Victor L. Yu of the 1st District of Zamboanga del Sur has started to use his personal financial assistance to the farmers in his district in one of his livelihood enhancement program.
The initiated program is rubber production. In an interview, Congressman Yu said that he has shelled out One Million of his personal fund to start the rubber production for the farmers that eventually will help them in the years to come. The 1-M fund will be used in procuring polly bags to be planted with rubber seedlings. “I started this to help them even without my congressional fund yet. We are running against time considering that rubber seedlings can only be found during the months of Spetember to November. So my office started to procure the basic things to have a rubber seedlings nursery in every municipality within my district” he said. Zamboanga del Sur Has Less Rubber Trees Zamboanga del Sur has only 6,000 hectares of planted rubber trees in the province as compared to the 19,000 hectares in Zamboanga Sibugay. The province of Zamboanga del Sur has more land to plant. “Seeing this, I make this rubber seedling production and planting this next year is one of the priority of my Farmers Livelihood Enhancement Program,” Yu adds. Meanwhile, Congressman Victor Yu also indorsed poor but deserving students to PGMA Skolar ng Bayan thru the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA to receive the ten thousand scholarship program per student on its education and training, like auto mechanics, refrigeration and airconditioning technicians, care givers..etc.. to augment and help and support the poor but deserving students. “ As one of my agenda, helping the poor, the PGMA Skolar ng Bayan will help my office to support this students in my district” he said. Slope Protection Funds for Dumagoc Hill In another development, More or less 5-Miliion funding for the slope protection of the Dumagoc Hill in Pagadian City was also given by Congressman Victor Yu to the local government of Pagadian to initiate in building the slope protection project of Barangay Dumagok. It may be recalled that the DENR MGB has told local authorities that Dumagok Hill is dangerous being a soft hill. Residents are endanger if their will be no protection that will be build like the slope protection structure. Dumagok is a military reservation but turn into a residential area after the Tsunami incident in 1976.
