Two suspects believed to be a member of a syndicate operating in Pagadian City was killed in a running gun battle between the police operatives of the 905th Provincial Mobile Group (PMG) and the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO) along the upper portion of F.S. Pajares Ave., San Jose District going to Mayor B.F. Arao (North Diversion Road) Avenue, Barangay Bulatok, Sunday dawn of August 12, 2007.

Police reports said that a roving patrol of the elements of the 905th PMG lead by P/Inspt. Homer Dumalag, Deputy Group Director and ZSPPO team leader PO3 Quintin Pasanting was conducting a roving patrol, they noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously. They tried to accost the said individuals however they immediately started their motorcycle and tried to evade the police. The police gave chase to the two suspicious persons who were riding in tandem in their color red single motorcycle at the dark portion of F.S. Pajares Avenue, Barangay  San Jose.

The suspects ignoring the verbal request and the two warning shots and siren made by the police operatives, instead the back-rider held out a gun and fired toward the pursuing law enforcers at the ascending portion of Rotunda which prompted them (police operatives) to engage the suspects in a running gunfight.

The police operatives finally neutralized the fleeing suspects along the vicinity of B.F. Arao Avenue at Barangay Bulatok, and identified the duo thru the identification cards recovered from their wallets.

Police identified the two persons as:  Ricky Cañete y Albarico 25 years old. Single, jobless and with postal address at Tambo, Parañaque City, Metro Manila. and Mark Anthony Elnar y Sumampong 27 years old, married, jobless and a resident of Poblacion Dayawan, Negros Oriental.

The authorities recovered at the crime scene one home made caliber 45 colt pistol with SN.531274, magazine assembled loaded with 3-live ammunition, 1-unit motorcycle single Skygo brand color red without plate number, 3-empty shells of caliber 45 pistol, assorted pawnshop receipt, one RCBC ATM card and some IDs.

The two dead bodies of the suspects were brought to the Gamalinda Funeral home while the police are still conducting further investigation.
