At least Eigth minors working as domestic helpers in Jordan who suffered maltreatment from their employers will be repatriated to their respective hometowns very soon with the help of Senate President Manny Villar. In an interview over RMN-DXPR, Villar said he interceded for the said minors from Mindanao after they seek refuge from the Philippine Embassy based in Jordan.

He said distressed Filipino workers in Jordan is increasing and some of them had ran away from their employers because they could no longer bear the physical abuse. Some of them were deprived from receiving their salaries.

Villar failed to mention the names of the said minors who hailed from Mindanao but he assured that soon the victims will be coming home and spend Christmas with their family.

He shouldered the plane fare of the eight abused minors and one of them is a certain Nisan Labay, 17, from South Cotabato. Labay has only finished grade 2 and went abroad believing she will earn a living but her dreams turned into a nightmare after being maltreated by her employer.

The fate of the eight minors brought a message to the parents in Zamboanga del Sur not to simply allow their children to work abroad without even ensuring their safety condition.

It can be recalled that the local Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Pagadian and Zamboanga del Sur have been sending workers abroad especially to the Middle East to solve the unemployment problems\. But instead of solutions more problems cropped up with reported violence experienced by workers coming from the provinces of Mindanao.

However, the local PESO officer here assured the people that Overseas Foreign Workers (OFW's) in Zamboanga del Sur are safe and in good condition. They are also in close contact with other government agencies to monitor them and ensure they receive proper salary from their employers especially in Arab countries.
