After a Press Conference with the local media here in Pagadian, Mindanao’s Week of Peace jumps off as the province joins the celebration starting November 29 to December 10, 2007.

With this year’s theme: “Building Bridges of Peace with our Peace4 Officers” NGO’s. PO’s Government Agencies, Local Government Units and its officials and the Interfaith Dialouge for Peace and Solidarity together with the Umma Fih Salam, and other concern groups  organizaed themselves to participate other activities .

On the second day, November 30, A day of Prayer for Peace that was held in the Diocesan Pastoral Center.  The Tri-People of the province, The Moro People, The Local Settlers and the Subanens joins the day of Prayer with spiritualty for peace and harmony.

And in December 1 and 2, the Regional management Committee (CBCS) and Umma Fiu Salam in coordination with the Interfaith Forum for Solidarity and Peace, will conduct a Grassroot Interfaith Dialouge will be held at Hotel Camill wherein more or less 60 participanmts from all of Zamboanga del Sur are expected to attend. The forum aims to Strengthen the grassroots Interfaith dialogue for understanding for Harmony and Peacxe.

Bishop Hilarion Gomez of the UCCP and Mr. Sam Maulana, Secretary General of the Consotium of Bangsamoro Civil Society will deliver message of peace and understanding.

On On December 2 to 3 UFS will also sponsor a Forum on the Culture of Peacew with its theme as a guide, “Unity and Awareness, the key towards the prevention of “Rido” and in the the afternoon a concert for Peace will be held at the SMC Annex Gymnasium sponsored by the Diocesan Youth Apostolate ,KALAMBOAN and LIMK (Liga  ng Makabagong Kabataan).

Other activites like the launching of the Government and Civil Societies Dialouge will comenece on the 4th of December LGU and other government sector together with the NGO’s and civil Societies will gather to talk about peace.

 “Reaffirmation in our aspiration for peace and harmony”says, Mr. Sam Maulana of the CBCS.

Governor Aurora E.  Cerilles. Monsignor Emmanuel Cabajar, Bishop of Pagadian City, PNP Provincial Director P/SSupt Ramon D. Ochotorena, and Major General Nehemias G. Pajarito of the Army’s 1st Division will deliuvered their message of peace and understanding.
On December 7, the Tri-People Conference on Environment and Development will take p0lace at the Sto Nino Formation House with its theme “Panaghiusa sa mga Baruganan sa Tulo ka Katawhan sa Pagpanalipod ug Pagpalambu sa Kinaiyahan”and will be followed by a Press Conference.

And on December 10, the 58th Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebration will be the culminating activity of the Mindanao Week of Peace in Zamboanga del Sur.

As Mr. Maulana said, “Peace is living with prosperity, living with dignity, Living with honor, and living with in harmony of other people”
The Mindanao Week of Peace is a comprehensive promotional activity that involves NGO’s and PO’s in advocating the Culture of Peace in the Southern POhilippinews.  It is a celebration of Peace which was initiated in Zamboanga City by Peace Advocates Zambo9anga Foundation Inc (PAZ) and SALAM Foundation in 1997.

It has snowballed into a Mindanao wide event as adopted by the Bishop-Ulama VConference and perpetuated as an annual observance through Presidential Proclamation 127, series of 2001 to be celebrated every last Thursday of November to 1st Wednesday of December.

But with the 58th Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebration that falls on December 10. 2007. The organizers here in Pagadian City and Zamboanga del Sur decided to celebrate the Mindanao Week of Peace starting November 29 to December 10 as its culmination day of the week of peace. As scheduled a Walk for peace in the morning will be held in which for the first time peace officers like the Tabak Division of the Philippine Army based in Camp Sang-an Pulaca, Labangan are enjoined and the Philippine National Police in Zamboanga del Sur will be sending participants to the Walk of Peace.
