CARNAPPING incident in the city of Pagadian rose to a record high, after the Traffic Division of the Philippine National Police has tallied no less than 18 carnapping cases from February to May, this year.

Motorcycle owners expressed their worries and described the series of carnapping as very alarming even as they urged the local police to double its effort to pin point the group responsible and solve this problem.

It was learned that most of the carnapped vehicles are Honda motorcycle parked in beer houses, unlighted streets and alleys on the outskirts of the city.

Owners of carnapped vehicles believe that the engines of their motorcycles are used in motor boats or bancas. Of the 18 carnapping cases not even one suspect has been arrested and sent to jail, prompting the public to question the efficiency of the city police in running after carnappers.

People are also urging the local police to upgrade the capability of its intelligence personnel to gather confidential information that might pave the way to the identification of this group. Many are suspecting the group comes from other places and has established local contacts in the city.

SPO4 Sanny Bernante, chief of the traffic division assured the people to solve the cases of carnapping in the city and urged motorcycle owners not park their vehicles in dark areas as this could invite carnappers.

He also encouraged the public to report immediately any carnapping case to the police for immediate action.
