This year’s summer has proved to be different and exciting as the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur launched the 1st ZamboSur Summer Fest at Provincial Government Center, Dao, this city which started from April 11 until May 15.
The summer festival is designed by the Provincial Tourism, Culture and Arts Office as it takes a share in developing the creative, talent and skills of the youth in the province in cooperation with the Greater Pagadian Jaycess, National Commission on the Culture and Arts, Kazaulogan Artists Network, and the Provincial Tourism, Culture and Arts Office.Provincial Tourism Officer-designate Anthony Frederick Padayhag disclosed that at 5:30 am on May 9, high school students who have undergone the acting, ballet and contemporary dancing as well as indigenous music workshops last April will showcase their talents and learning through a recital dubbed as: PASUNDAYAG: Panday Sining sa Tag-Araw at the Agro-tourism and Heritage Complex inside the PGC, Dao. In an interview, Padayhag said together with Felimon Blanco, designated Artistic Director they divided the whole summer fest into three parts – First, is called Panday Sining sa Tag-araw for the whole month of April conducting workshops on acting, ballet and contemporary dancing, indigenous music, creative writing and visual arts. “We invited art experts from different places who are in the authority to conduct these workshops,” Blanco claimed. Part II of the fest is called AHC sa AHC otherwise stands for arts, heritage and competitions at the agro-tourism and heritage complex. Competitions are as follows: The 1st Summer Funride Mountain Bike Competition is slated on May 10 to start as early as 6 am. “Konsyerto Alang sa Kalinaw” will follow at 7 in the evening. Musicians are expected to showcase their musical prowess in the love for peace and prosperity. Gukod 2008 Adventure Race is also one for Newbies on May 11. This event is patterned from The Amazing Race where teams composed of three members each have to go head-to-head in different physical and mental challenges. The summer fest also have an Invitational Skateboarding Competition at 2 pm. A VideokaZiyahan featuring the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division will follow at 5:30 pm. At 8 pm, different local bands will stay the night awake as they perform at the ZamboSur Bands Showdown. On May 12, 14 and 15 will be the Sepak Takraw, Archery and tennis tournaments, respectively. May 13 will be a tribute to Filipino culture and heritage, the 1st ZamboSur summer fest features Pamana ng Lahi. This will be a cultural show where the colorful oral, dance, and music traditions of the tri-people settlers in the province (Subanens, Christians, and Muslims) will be showcased.
