Four PNP elements of Pagadian City Police Station while having their snack at about 4:00 pm last August 21 at Cotingjo Store and Lending Shop, San Pedro District, spotted two (2) suspicious looking male customers at the same place, one of whom was seen in with a handgun tucked in his waits in plain.
When P02 Quibedo approached and introduced themselves as Police officers, the said person suddenly drew his firearm which resulted to a grappling between them eventually resulting to the untimely death of the person who was later identified through his ID as PFC Dinhar N. Kadim, a member of the Philippine Army assigned at 5th IB stationed at Romarate, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. Recovered from the victim was a caliber .45 pistol, Springfield brand with model 1911-A1 bearing SN-924103 with magazine loaded with 6-live ammunitions, one reserved magazine filled with live ammunition of the same caliber on his belt magazine pouch and 2-spent shells of caliber .45. Police Investigation disclosed the said incident is a misencounter between them. It was learned after the incident that the Office of the Commanding Officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion thru the Judge Advocate Generals Office (JAGO) of the 1st Infantry Tabak Division also conducted an investigation of the incident and now filed appropriate charges against the police officer in the City Prosecutors office. Meanwhile Mayor Samuel S. Co who was also alarmed on the incident especially when Pagadianons started talking about the incident. It is feared that army men will start reprisal actions against the police involved in the shootout. Mayor Co appealed to the people that there are no such moves, and refrain from adding fire to incident.
