The Provincial Disaster and Coordinating Council (PDCC) of Zamboanga del Sur has conducted a 3 day Disaster Preparedness and Contigency Planning at Spring Resort, from January 9 to 11, 2007.
The said activity is being initiated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office to craft up contingency plans in times of man made and natural disasters in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
Provincial Social Welfare Offficer Chit San Diego said that the activity has long been planned to equip the members of the disaster committee the necessary know how in responding to calamites. The UNICEF has also allocated some amount for training with the able support of the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur. Governor Auring Cerilles is the automatic chair of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council of Zamboanga del Sur. San Diego said now is the opportune time for the disaster committee members to learn specific rules and guidelines for an effective and systematic quick response in times of calamity such as landslides, floods and mudslides and even wars or any disasters caused by man. She also added that a close coordination with local agencies is also necessary in times of tragedy. The contigency plan will serve as the guding light in doing individual task in ansewring the needs of people affected by the disaster. She also lauded the provincial government for its sincerity in coming up with a well organized disaster committee as part of its mandate to safeguard the life of its populace.
