The City government is poised to intensify its campaign against measles in supports of the nationwide “Knock-out Tigdas 2007” operation of the Department of Health.
“Knock-out Tigdas 2007” is a sequel to the 1998 and 2008 Ligtas Tigdas” mass measles immunization campaigns. This is the second follow-up measles campaign nationwide to eliminate measles infection as a public health problem, it was gathered.
City Mayor Sammy Co has expressed concerned on children who may be at risk of getting measles of being susceptible to measles. “The City Health Office is now drawing out plans to effectively implement the program from October 15, 2007 November 15, 2007,” Mayor Samuel S. Co told reports here in an interview. Accordingly, the campaign is prelude measles in all communities by 2008. Mayor Co said that the campaign is targeting children who are between 9 months to 4 years old or those dates of birth fall on October 15, 2003 to January 15, 2007. Regardless of immunization status, the children will be given measles vaccination Children older than 4-years old who did not receive measles vaccination in the past will also he vaccinated. Public health nurses and barangay health workers will also giving Vitamin A and deworming drugs to all eligible children, it was gathered. Mayor Co is urging parents to bring their children to their respective barangay health clinics, and avail of the services of the campaign.
