Pagadian City – Some 5,000 seedlings of Narra and Mahogany trees will be planted at the North Diversion road in the joint tree planting activity on June 25 by government agencies, non-government organizations and other concerned agencies, spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR).
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Rito G. Ordiz said, the tree planting activity is one of the highlights of the Environment Month Celebration this month of June which kicked off yesterday (June 1), with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Sto. Niño Cathedral. On June 5, in celebration of World Environment Day, the activities include: an Eco-walk or Lakad Para sa Kalikasan in which the participants will carry slogans bearing the themes :”Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy!” and ” Kapaligiran at Likas na Yaman : Ating Kinabukasan”. On June 16 will be the opening of a photo exhibit at the Liga Convention Center; June 17 – Quiz bowl to be participated in by high school students in the city and will be held at the DENR Office; June 18 will be the coastal and river clean up and Urban regreening to be spearheaded by the City Government thru the local Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO); June 25 will be observed as “Arbor Day”, where there will be a revisitation and replanting of the Green Philippine Highways at the North Diversion Road from Tiguma to Buenavista; and June 30 will be the culmination of the lined-up activities. Ordiz said, the observance of these events are reminders of every Filipino to be fully aware of their responsibilities in addressing environmental concerns to mitigate climate change. He encouraged the government officials and employees, Civic and Non-Government Organizations to actively participate in the month long activities for the preservation of the environment from the threat of global warming.
