THE PAGADIAN City Sports Complex will be packed with national motorbike riders and spectators on June 14 and 15 as the Blackmoon Riders Association, Inc. presents a Mayor’s Cup Flat Track and Motocross Invitational Race.
The two-day event is drawn up by the Co administration in its pursuit of giving a wholesome entertainment to the people of Pagadian, guests and visitors as the city marks its 39th anniversary on June 21, according to Vice Mayor Romeo “Tata” Pulmones who is the president of the 26-year old Blackmoon Riders Association, Inc. Vice Mayor Pulmones disclosed that about 100 national riders coming from the cities of Cebu, Iloilo, Guimaras, Davao, Dumaguete, Cagayan de Oro, Valencia, Malaybalay (Bukidnon), Dipolog, Ozamis will turn up in Pagadian for the competition, sponsored by the City Government under the stewardship of Mayor Sammy Co. Pulmones is anticipating that the city oval would be jammed with motorbike riders and enthusiasts since it was in 2002 that his group spearheaded the last competition like this. “People are eager to watch this kind of breathtaking competition,” he quipped. Claiming to be a rider himself, although he never become a champion, Pulmones invites interest groups to watch the event. Here you can see powerful racing bikes with 450cc engines while we usually see small ones like KMX125. Together with its founding chairman Nestor Gonzales, Pulmones expressed confidence that the Mayor’s Cup will be remembered as this kind of event is rarely held due to present economic condition and the lot of preparation it entails as well as the difficulty of funding the activity. Aside from the executive department, the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor Pulmones as its presiding officer are also extending support to the Mayor’s Cup. Moreover, the event has gained the support of Provincial Governor Auring E. Cerilles and 1st District Congressman Victor Yu. Pulmones said that entrance fee is P60.00 for the whole day but for those who intend to witness the competition for two days, they will only spend P120. The Blackmoon will be giving away a total of P180-T as cash prizes plus trophies. Like the motocross, there will be also four categories for the flat track competition. For flat track, they are: Novice Stock 125, AMA Stock 125, Expert Stock 125 and Econo Open Riders Open CC. For Motocross, competitions are categorized as Novice Production Open, AMA Production Open, Expert Production Open and Power Enduro Open Rider Open CC.
