Instead of April 18 and 19 as previously reported, the First ZamboSur Coastal Resource Management (CRM) summit is moved to May 29 to 30.
The change of schedule is due to the inavailability of the invited guests coming from Manila, namely: Secretary Lito Atienza of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and U.S Ambassador to the Philippines Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Loy Cañales told the Provincial Press Bureau. Cañales, who is a member of the First CRM summit steering committee said they were prepared for the April event but along the way, they were informed that the US Ambassador won’t be available by that time. Ambassador Kenney is pleased to come and grace the occasion should the invitation was sent at least two months prior to the event which prompted us to move it in May, Cañales elaborated. The source assured that the First CRM summit will push through on the 29th and 30th of May where DENR Secretary Atienza is expected to deliver a keynote address anchored on the theme: “Saving our seas, improving our lives in Zamboanga del Sur” duing day 1 while Ambassador Kenney confirmed her presence on the second day for the Illana Bay Regional Alliance IX (IBRA-9) gains technical assistance from the USAID. While the IBRA-9 composed of 7 coastal municipalities (Tukuran, Labangan, Dumalinao, San Pablo, Dinas, Dimataling, Tabina) and Pagadian City have institutionalized cause in protecting the Illana bay, the three other bays surrounding Zamboanga del Sur - Dumanquillas, Maligay and Panguil are left behind in terms of technical capabilities to protect, conserve and manage coastal marine resources. The Cerilles Administration spearheads this first CRM summit in coordination with the EcoGov to review the status of CRM initiatives in the bays of Illana, Panguil, Dumanquillas and Maligay; to strengthen LGU support to CRM governance; to promote coastal ecotourism in the province; to enhance and strengthen inter-LGU, inter-agency and inter-sectoral partnership in CRM programs; and to identify priority CRM program interventions of the province. Expected output are as follows: 1) report of CRM accomplishment of each bay, 2) harmonization and agreements on the next steps both bay and provincial level, 3) declaration of support for CRM by LGUs, NGAs and other sectors in different bays of Zamboanga del Sur as well as get a proper process documentation of the summit.
