Pagadian City – The Pagadian City government has allocated P800-thousand pesos thru the LGU rolling stores to purchase about 500 sacks of NFA daily for the distribution to the 54 barangays in the city.
“We need to flood the NFA rice to the 54 barangays of the city at 500 sacks daily thru our LGU rollings store at P18.00 per kilo instead of P18.25 aron dili na magka problema sa sensilyo. Ang city government nalang mag subsidize aron mapadali pag apud-apud sa mga bugas sa tag 5-ka kilo matag tawo,” Mayor Samuel Co told the reporters. The city government thru its rolling stores has allocated P800-thousand since the NFA will not release the rice with out the cash intended for the allocation to the city. The city government help the distribution of NFA rice after learning that the NFA don’t have enough man power to distribute the NFA rice around the city following the directives of President GMA. Mayor Co created at least 3-rolling stores and assigned 30 personnel to manage after the NFA increased the city allocation from 5,000 sacks monthly to 500 sacks of NFA rice daily. Out of 3 rolling stores, 2 of which were assigned as in charge of distribution to at least four urban barangays everyday and 1 rolling store assigned for mobile to at least 3 rural barangays daily. “With this system of distribution that we are going to apply in one week time we can be able to rotate the 54 barangays and the people will have no difficulty in acquiring rice for their daily consumption,” Mayor Co said. It will be recalled that Secretary Ermita visited Pagadian just recently to look into the problem on food after Governor Auring Cerilles requested the President GMA to flood the NFA rice since the system of NFA distribution is only limited and did not solve the present problem. “The distribution of NFA rice will last until the harvest season. And by that time we are hoping that the price of commercial rice will be normalized. I am also hoping that some LGUs in other places in the country will do the same otherwise if we are only the one doing these kind of strategy our efforts will be useless because other areas will buy rice here with the bigger amount,” Mayor Co disclosed.
