BUT BEFORE THESE FANFARES on June 16, the 8th municipal mayor of Molave, Flavio J. Saniel, Jr. will give his State of the Town Address (SOTA) during the anniversary program at the MRPS Grandstand in Molave.
As programmed, Saniel who is serving his third and last term as the town’s local chief executive will report his accomplishments particularly the fiscal and physical conditions of Molave. Saniel claims that under his leadership Molave is the current top earning second-class municipality throughout Mindanao. Thus, he wants to spell out a challenge to Molavenians to give their continuous support and cooperation to the local government. The 60th Araw ng Molave’s theme is: “Molave at 60: advancing towards the future; sustaining its socio-economic growth.” “Governor Aurora E. Cerilles will be our Guest of Honor on the occasion,” Saniel told this weekly, in an exclusive interview last week. Both Cerilles and Saniel are finishing their respective terms as local chief executives and the governor in some ways has helped in what Molave had accomplished in terms of infrastructure and of providing services to its constituents. Saniel also said that annually, Molave hosts Jobs Fair and Mobile Passporting during its anniversary celebration. But he emphasized that this time, only skilled workers should apply since they no longer facilitate the recruitment of domestic helpers because of the lamentable experience met by some of those they had helped in the past. Molave which is named after the timber tree “Molave” is known to be the “trade center” in Salug Valley. It is basically an agricultural area that was carved from the municipality of Aurora through the efforts of the late Congressman Juan S. Alano under Republic Act No. 296 on June 16, 1948. It is strategically located at the heart of Salug Valley easily making it the trade center of the neighboring towns of Dumingag, Josefina, Mahayag, Ramon Magsaysay, Tambulig and even Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental. For several years now, under Saniel administration, each time Molave marks its founding anniversary, Molavenians gather at the MRPS Grandstand to enjoy and have fun participating in parlor games like: “palo sebo”, “kaon sili”, “dakop baboy”, bunot lubi, karambola or paaway sa sunoy nga manok. This year, Saniel said they add more attractions and fun games like carabao fashion and dog show; racing contests for hand tractors, horse and tri-sikads. Prizes are prepared as the competitions measure the camaraderie and sportsmanship of Molavenians. Display of agricultural and industrial products are another attraction which is usually handled by the municipal agricultural office headed by Municipal Agriculturist Dominga B. Ramos. Sports activities like invitational tennis and softball (for girls only) tournaments will surely catch the attention of youths and adults. For Molavenians with tested stamina and endurance, a motocross, mountain bike race and marathon are prepared for them. At night of June 15, the Molave Tourism Council will be holding a Search for Little Miss Molave. There will also be a singing contest where contestants are prescribed to sing the newly produced Molave Hymn, entitled: “Molave, Land of Opportunities”. Obviously, this town is proving true to its name "Molave", which refers to the hard, strong and resilient trees abounding in the place during the 1950s. Molave is located in the eastern part of the province of Zamboanga del Sur and has a total land area of 21,685 hectares. The municipality is composed of 25 barangays 3 of which are urban while six (6) are lowland and sixteen (16) are upland barangays. Its present population based on the year 2000 census is 45,082.
