PAGADIAN CITY – NCIP Commissioner Miguel Imbing Sia Apostol enplaned for Malaysia Sunday to attend a 5-day conference sponsored by Southeast Asian Conflict Studies Network (SEACSN).
Apostol was invited as one of the resource speakers on the various problems of the indigenous peoples in the Philippines even before his appointment as commissioner representing the North-Western ethnographic region of Mindanao. {sidebar id=8}As an active media practitioner, the new commissioner was chosen from a long list of proposed resource speakers byResearch and Education for PEACE, Universiti Sains Malaysia (REPUSM) and Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA). Before his departure, Apostol urged NCIP officials and personnel to unite and work dedicatedly under one direction to attain the mission and vision of the commission in lifting the social status of the underserved members of the cultural communities. During a week-long on-the-spot inspection of NCIP field offices in Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, the new commissioner stressed the point of cohesiveness among workers in government to regain the waning trust and confidence of the tribal communities. “If we have to go back to basics, let us do it”, Apostol concluded.
