President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo bared her plans for the upgrading and development of the Pagadian City Airport during her recent visit to the Regional Center of the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The President was the Guest of Honor on the 55th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, who came with Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, OPAPP Secretary and Mindanao Super Region Champion Jesus Dureza, Maryse Gautier – World Bank Country Director and other dignitaries. She was met at the airport by Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles, Congressman Antonio H. Cerilles, Congressman Victor Yu, City Mayor Samuel Co, heads of national government agencies and other local government officials. During the opening program and inauguration of the Agro-Tourism & Heritage Complex at Dao, the president announced the airport development program of her administration in this part of the country under the Mindanao Super Region. “Gusto nato ang mas maayo nga airport sa Pagadian.” (We want a better airport for Pagadian) “Bids for the P57 million appropriation for the runway overlay have been submitted. To accommodate your officials’ request for runway extension to accommodate bigger planes, another P30 million was realigned from last year’s budget published last August 30. The bids will be opened on October 11 and construction will start last week of October,” she said. The president added another P200 million for Pagadian City’s runway extension project, as part of her commitment to raise infrastructure spendings for roads, bridges, airports and power plants, among others.
