Pagadian City – In its desire to provide local and overseas employment opportunities, the national government through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has launched the web-based GMA (Greater Modular Access) Jobs Center during the 106th celebration of Labor Day yesterday (May 1, 2008) at the Executive Building, City Hall, with a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony.
DoLE Provincial Officer Virginia L. Bonbon said the project is in accordance with the goals in the Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) of setting up alternative jobs by the Bureau of Local Employment of the DOLE’s employment facilitation strategy to harness modern technology and to make more efficient job vacancies matching with skills supply.The GMA Jobs Center or Kiosk ( a touch-screen machine) aims to deliver job vacancy information to the unemployed through the provision of free, more accessible and ultimate information on available jobs nationwide and worldwide as well as other jobs-related information. Bonbon further stressed that through the GMA Jobs Center Project, the DOLE aims to provide free state-of-the-art or high tech employment service alternative to people who are neither connected to the internet using private connections nor inside an online PESO as well as those who cannot afford to use the short messaging system or SMS service of the Phil-Job Net. It delivers a unified and synchronized job vacancy information service to match greater client-base through the time- tested Phil-Job Net job search facility using one single source data to ensure accuracy, integrity and relevance of the information; and to enrich the generation of labor market information by capturing information from people on the gulf; and provide value added information service from other DOE agencies like the OWWA, POEA, and TESDA. Mayor Samuel S. Co was very pleased with the establishment of the Kiosk for it will address the unemployment problem in the city. The good mayor has been very supportive of the job creation program of the national government thru the conduct of several jobs fair. Victor Yu, Representative of the First District and Governor Aurora E. Cerilles shared the same sentiment and were grateful for the administration’s strategy to solve unemployment. Accordingly, the GMA Kiosks were simultaneously distributed in the country but there are only two Kiosks established in Region 9: one in Southway Mall, Zamboanga City and one in Pagadian City. Bonbon thanked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her administration, DOLE and partner-agencies and other stakeholders especially the private sector for the manifestation of support to the said undertaking.
