The Philippine National Police, through a Letter of Instruction from Police Director Emmanuel Carta, commits to support the international community through the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) in ensuring the implementation of the Republic Act 8485 known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
The AKF is a non-stock, non-profit animal welfare organization and its mission is to support, promote and protect the welfare and the rights of animal and eliminate the practice of illegal slaughter of dogs for human consumption. Also, it is the local affiliate of the International Wildlife Coalition Trust (IWCT). The PNP, in line with its mandate as a principal law enforcement agency of the government shall extend support and assistance to the AKF through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) in the implementation of RA 8485 and RA 9482. With this instruction, Zamboanga del Sur now will be free from any problem in relation with the said animal act. It may be recalled that there are still municipalities trying to evade legal sanction in horse fights during fiestas and holidays. Last update : 28-08-2007 10:36
