Hosting the 121st Regional Development Council (RDC) Meeting last September 18 was an advantage to Zamboanga del Sur. It was the venue for her to strongly indorse her proposed road concreting projects.
Upon presentation of Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Loy Cañales, the two proposed road concreting includes: 1) the Mahayag to Josefina which is 19-kilometer stretch with an estimated funding requirement of P325-million; 2) Mahayag-Dumingag (Zamboanga del Sur) to Siayan and Sindangan (Zamboanga del Norte) road totaling to 18 kilometers at P310-million funding requirement. {sidebar id=8}The meeting was presided by RDC Co-chairman Atty. Arsenio Gonzales who represented the private sector. In behalf of its chair, Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando Yebes, Gonzales articulated that upgrading of road network is mainly stated in the Zamboang Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Development Plan covering 2005 to 2010. This also conformed the 10-point agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which centers the decentralization of projects through improvement of transportation networks, roll on and roll off ferries and digital infrastructures which she will implement throughout the country. It may be recalled that in 2001, the RDC Executive Committee had indorsed for the conversion of Mahayag-Dumingag-Siayan-Sindangan from being a provincial road into a national road. In the same year, RDC Resolution No. 98 was likewise adopted indorsing the improvement of Punta, Dipolog City to Molave, Zamboanga del Sur which also covers Mahayag to Josefina Road. The RDC technical staff were consistent with the goal of the Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Development Plan. Last update : 04-10-2007 17:03
