MOLAVE MAYOR Flavio Saniel, Jr. bares his town’s infrastructure projects for the calendar year 2008 in the total amount of P12.1-million.

In an exclusive interview, Saniel said since he is finishing his third and last term as chief executive of the bustling town in Salug Valley, he wants to put in place the basic infrastructures he envisions for Molave to be known for commercial tourism in Zamboanga del Sur, claiming it lacks enchanting tourist spots unlike other towns. He claims that Molave is the melting pot of Salug Valley, the province’s “rice granary”. It is strategically located and serves as entry point of four provinces namely; Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga del Sur.

These basic infrastructure projects include: 1) construction of water intake at Lower Dimalinao up to level 3 with an allocation of P990-T; 2) completion of main drainage canal along Rizal Avenue at the cost of P1.3-M; 3) concreting of Lapu-Lapu Street at the cost of P1.5-M; 4) Installation of street lights at Barangay Makuguihon–P500-T; 5) completion of drainage canal at the public market, P260-T; 6) Lighting of municipal plaza, P348-T; 7) construction of gym stage–P360-T; 8) repair of freedom stage–P320-T; 9) construction of habal-habal parking area phase 2 worth of P260-T; 10) construction of tennis court–P250-T; and 11) P5-million ongoing flood control construction at the BLISS area.

On the other hand, Saniel said that he is managing a financially-sound municipality with a local annual income of P25-million aside from an Internal Revenue Allotment of P58-million a year.

He added that for the past seven years under his administration, Molave has posted an annual surplus of not less than P2-million. “We don’t bloat our budget rather we budget our expected revenues conservatively,” Saniel pointed out.

Nevertheless, Saniel did not deny that he too, has aspired to make Molave a city as its land area and income already qualify although its population is still short of the required number of 150,000.

Presently, Molave has only a population of 53,000, the good looking Mayor lamented.
