Zamboanga del Sur nurses and nurses to be were privileged to meet a US Immigration Lawyer who came to this city straight from the United States to conduct a symposium on latest US procedures on immigration.
It was made possible through the Philippine Paramedical and Technical School (PPTS), Pagadian campus that in spite of travel advisory issued by other countries did not deter Atty. Nathan Hoffman to come over to Pagadian. Last Saturday, September 1, before the excited licensed nurses and nursing students in the province, Atty. Hoffman of the Hoffman & Osorio, LLP, Los Angeles, California was telling them that applying for a nursing working visa in the U.S. is not easy. The applicant must be proficient in English as nursing is the most honored profession in the US. He said that Filipinos are the most sought-after nurses in the US because of their patience and compassion. However, they must be fluent in English for they will attend to patients whose recovery from malady depends on them. Presently, U.S is in need of at least 400,000 nurses that gives more chances of Filipino nurses to work there, Hoffman told the attendees where some of them are doctors who took up nursing for their desire to work in the US. Hoffman’s disclosure has increased the interest of PPTS students to finish their short-term medical courses. Hoffman was welcomed by Governor Auring E. Cerilles as her Administration endeavors not only for a well-reinforced health and medical services as well as assisting the constituents’ struggle for greater economic stability. In the same manner, Cerilles expressed her gratitude to PPTS founder and chairman of the board (Engr.) Art Lacuesta for establishing a branch in Pagadian. The presence of Atty. Hoffman brings ray of hope to those who dream to work as a nurse in the U.S,” Cerilles remarked. Cerilles said that the coming of Atty. Hoffman is indeed a timely endeavor of the school that answers to many questions and requisites on U.S. immigration matter. “We know that US is not an easy spot for entry especially obtaining working visa. {sidebar id=8}She herself finds it difficult even she is a holder of a diplomat visa for U.S. Before, the lady governor recalled she can be allowed to stay there for 10 years. It was reduced to 6 months now it is good for 90days. PPTS is the first to use a Certified U.S. Curriculum and is the first Nursing school outside the US that is a member of 3 highly efficient nursing institutions, namely: the National League of Nursing (NLN), the National Federation for Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc. (NFLPN), and the National Association for Practical Nurse Education and Services, Inc. (NAPSES). At PPTS one can already finish Practical and Vocational Nursing Program (PN) in 15-months only; others may take the 24-months Applied Science in Nursing (RN); there is also a 12-month and 6-month Caregiver course and a Surgical Technology program.
