To strengthen the knowledge of the community coordinators of the Ummah Fi Salam on the Participatory Research Appraisal or PRA, a three day workshop/ clinicking was conducted last August 14-16 at the UFS Office in Pagadian City.

The said activity aims at finalizing the conducted PRA activities in the three communities handled by the Ummah like the Darusalam, Santiago and Leon Kilat communities, all of Pagadian city.

Enclosed in the PRA activities are researches conducted on the different communities, including the analysis on the problems encountered by the community folks, inquiries on the potential livelihood sources for additional income of every family to uplift their economic status.     

Moreover, information gathered in the conduct of the PRA includes the Socio-Cultural aspect, the economic, infrastructure and environment, political and human rights aspects. 

From these data gathered by the PRA team, a Community Plan will be formulated, including the Annual and Operational Investment Plans, which are needed in creating a Barangay Development Plan.

In the same clinicking, the coordinators shared their experiences and learnings in the conduct of PRA in their different communities.

They learned that time should not be constrained and that they should be flexible to find a schedule that works for both the community and for the PRA team.

Also, they need to break the culture of silence and some cultural aspects like the equal participation of both genders. The participants, also, need to understand the importance of the activity to gain their commitment.

The community members should be part in finalizing the PRA report as they are the ones who would validate the data gathered by the team.

In a PRA activity, the community members are encouraged to participate for them to know the process, which would lead them to be active in other community projects and activities.

It was also learned that the other ten municipalities under the Human Rights Program of the Ummah Fi Salam implements the same PRA activity. {sidebar id=9}
